Howard Malpass received a BS in Textile Chemistry at North Carolina State University in 1967 and served as a lieutenant in the US Navy before returning to NC State to complete a Masters in Textile Technology in 1973.
Malpass worked at Milliken & Company first as a supervisor and eventually dyeing superintendent of textured polyester, and plant technical superintendent. In 1979, he became the plant technical superintendent for the Cone Mills commission dyeing and finishing plant in Cheraw, SC. In 1989, he went to work with BASF Corporation in Charlotte, NC (later DyStar) as a technical advisor for indigo among other dyeing products.
Malpass retired from DyStar in 2014 and is currently consulting part-time for Denim Dyeing Technical Service LLC. Malpass represents Indigo Mill Designs Corporation as an owner and technical advisor for foam dyeing of indigo.
