Despina is a pioneering leader in the wearable technology and e-textiles world, regularly consulting major brands and start-ups on e-textiles development and commercialization. She has developed a wide range of award-winning wearable technology projects and solutions, including the mBracelet for NCR, the world’s first sweat-sensing t-shirt for Nivea / Beiersdorf, a heated jacket for Lubrizol and the e-textile connector for the Ralph Lauren winter Olympic jacket.

In her TEDx talk, From Thinking to Making: Weaving technology in Everyday Life, Despina discusses the evolution of wearables and their role in everyday life. As the founder of Principled Design and a Visiting Professor at New York University’s Collaborative Arts Program, she continues to push the boundaries of wearable technology.  Despina’s innovative work has been featured in publications around the world and exhibited in major museum shows, including the V&A in London, the Holon Design Museum in Holon, Israel, and the Walker Art Center in Minnesota.
